Phil discovers that his secretary, Miss Wales, is Jewish and that she has changed her name to get a job (like Hobson), but also that she is a detestable Jew who believes in her heart in her own inferiority. The magazine`s intelligent and funny art director, Anne Dettrey (Celeste Holm), becomes a friend and admires his plan to uncover anti-Semitism, but like Miss Wales and most people in the office don`t realize he`s not Jewish. The elephant in the room, of course, is the Holocaust. It is not mentioned, although it happened recently. Phil seriously tells his big little one that anti-Semitism is a kind of religious prejudice like anti-Catholicism, and it is perhaps understandable that he does not want to burden his son with the Holocaust. .
